Letter of information sent out to the secretaries

Irish Beekeepers’ Association CLG
18th November 2017
Dear Beekeeper
We are writing to make you aware of the new national beekeepers’ association.
We were formed in October 2017 in response to what was happening within the beekeeping world.
What we can offer your members is affordable insurance and comprehensive third-party cover.
The cost of membership is only 20 euros per member if joining through a local association, or €40 if joining as an individual member.
We aim to support small as well as large associations, and individual beekeepers. We welcome all beekeepers, and hope to create an environment of mutual respect and understanding, so that no beekeeper ever feels marginalized or ostracized because of the type of bee they keep.
We have an education system in place that will provide a full education program from beginners to senior examinations. We intend to have formal international recognized qualifications for those undertaking exams in the IBA CLG educational system. This exam system will be run by an education board with assistance of Breandán Ó Cochláin PhD, DIC, DSc, Nat Dip Sc (APIC)Professor Emeritus, (Physical Chemistry)
We are aware of the serious problem within the country with AFB and EFB and hope to be able to offer a compensation fund for those members affected by the foul brood. We plan to work closely with Teagasc and the Department of Agriculture in dealing with this issue.
As a company limited by guarantee we are obliged to produce accounts annually.
We are a voluntary organisation and our directors are not paid.
