Hello beekeepers,
Firstly, welcome to all our new members, and a big thank you to the committee that made this possible.
Its hard to conceive of what has been achieved in such a short space of time.
You are all amazing.
To all the associations that were behind us and supporting this venture, thank you.
We are all looking forward to a fresh start in an honest, fair, affordable and transparent organisation.

Jacqui Glisson has marshaled 2,000 emails, juggled company formation documentation, set up a website, convened one multi-association assembly, 3 web-based meetings, Interacted with a lot of overly keen personnel, whilst holding down the day job. All in the space of 2 weeks Sure who needs sleep. We are all very grateful for this feat of organisation and patience.

Hitting the ground running has been almost completed. Over to the beekeepers now.

The bees of ireland have had their full of ivy pollen and nectar in the past week, and are now sorting through their nectar flow and preparing some fat bees to overwinter the colony.

Yes I noticed that.
We even have Elder flowering at the moment.
Quite bizarre

When it warmed up last week several of our members reported that the bees were as busy as anytime during the summer. There were "clouds" of bees in my apiary when I checked them, it was good to see.

Yes they are all out again this morning.
Loads of yellow ivy pollen coming in.
Great to watch with ones morning cup of coffee

Sorry folks,

Bad move. We are weaker now.

Could you please post a detailed explanation as to why it was felt necessary?

Hi Keith,

I was hoping to keep this blog lighthearted and focused on beekeeping topics.

I know most people are sick to the gills of politics and just want to get on with enjoying and learning about their bees.

The reason this company came into existence is different for everyone involved and I can't talk on behalf on anyone else.

If you feel you need a one on one chat contact me via the contact us page on the website and give me your number.

I will do my best to answer what questions you have.

Yours in beekeeping

Jacqui Glisson

I would also like to know the reason why it was felt an alternative to FIBKA was needed. I will message through the contact page.

For me personally, I could not continue to pay affiliation fees to FIBKA following what I have personally witnessed and experienced over recent months. I felt continuing to pay money to FIBKA would be a vindication of it's actions and the disregard shown to affiliated members over recent months. The difficult choice facing me was to give up beekeeping or find alternative insurance.
I look forward to enjoying my bees and continuing with promoting the honey bee and all other pollinators who need our help now like no time before.
Yours in beekeeping,
Colette O'Connell, Chairperson of the Co. WBKA

Thank you Colette for saying a little more.

Nevertheless, from the point of view of a member who has never attended an annual congress, it all looks like in-fighting within a "ruling elite" (ie those who have the time, money and inclination to travel to Congress). The ultimate outcome - a weakened beekeeping lobby, a weakening of the position of those within FIBKA who might be sympathetic to some of your aims (which to me are still fairly obscure however) and a situation which divides beekeepers, the majority of whom I am sure would have prefered to stay within a single organisation no matter how flawed.

If you really feel there are differences of substance between yourselves and the FIBKA "establishment", would it not have been smarter to form a faction/party/movement within FIBKA, with the aim of promoting candidates at local level who might then go on to become delegates who might form majorities at Congress and acheive some of your aims that way?

Such a move would also have had the benefit of promoting at local level, discussion of those issues close to your hearts.

In fact, I don't think it's too late to do that. Please think again!
